Charles M. Schulz Museum

Santa Rosa

The Charles M. Schulz Museum celebrates the life and work of Peanuts creator Charles Schulz, who lived and worked in Santa Rosa for over 30 years. Even if your kids don’t know Peanuts yet, they’ll leave as fans.

What to See

The Artwork

The museum houses the world’s largest collection of original Peanuts artwork. Seeing the actual pen strokes Schulz made on these famous strips is remarkable.

Schulz’s Studio Recreation

A faithful recreation of where Schulz drew every Peanuts strip for decades. Kids can see the drawing table, reference materials, and personal items that surrounded him while he worked.

Interactive Exhibits

  • Education Room: Kids can sit down and draw their own Peanuts-style comics
  • Rotating exhibits with hands-on elements
  • Videos about animation and cartooning

Outdoor Spaces

  • Snoopy Labyrinth (great for kids to run)
  • Sculpture garden with Peanuts characters

Make It a Day

The museum is next door to Snoopy’s Home Ice skating rink. Many families do both:

  1. Morning at the museum
  2. Lunch at the Warm Puppy Cafe (in the ice arena)
  3. Afternoon ice skating

Best for Ages

Kids 4 and up get the most out of it. Younger toddlers may enjoy running around and seeing Snoopy, but won’t engage with the exhibits. Older kids and adults often find it surprisingly moving.

Practical Tips

  • Closed Tuesdays
  • Free parking in the lot
  • Allow 1-2 hours for the museum
  • Education Room is the highlight for most kids - plan time there
  • Gift shop has great Peanuts merchandise

Why It Matters

Schulz drew every single Peanuts strip himself for 50 years - no assistants. This museum honors that dedication and introduces new generations to these beloved characters.
